PostSubject: Doppler Scan   Mon 11 Oct 2010, 3:44 pm

I have my doppler scan tomorrow and am absolutely terrified!! We're going to another hospital to have it done to see a specialist in that area so that doesn't help too.

I'm just so scared at the moment and have been up to my hospital quite a few times to try and ease my fears and also with mild headaches. I'm just dreading what they're going to say tomorrow Sad Really, really want to just get through the next few weeks and to a safer gestation.

Sorry, this is a bit of a pointless post but just wanted to get it out there because I know so many of you have experienced the same.

Hi Emma,
How many weeks are you now? I completely understand, the first doppler is very scary and I know it is so frightening at this point. Does it feel different to you from your last pregnancy? I might be wrong, but for me the babies movement reassured me a little, because even at 22 wks ish he was moving lots compared to Bea at the same point.

What I tried to do at the same point as you, (because I was an emotional, nervous wreck!!) was make a mental list of positives about the pregnancy so far. I would also think about all the ways it differed from last time and it did help. I'm not saying I was relaxed going for a scan but it did calm me a bit. Unfortunately, because of your awful experience last time you just automatically expect horrible news, which is so normal. I want you to know that it does get better...even though i'm not out of the woods yet I am just beginning to believe that this baby will be coming home, and it will be the same for you.
Take care,
Lizzie

I know .... I can't say much more but do understand. I am still worried at the "safer" gestation of 29 weeks [nothing will really feel safe until she is born], but not as much as I was. Good luck for tomorrow xx

Hi ladies,

Sorry Ive not been able to get here as much my laptop at home has been sick & is in the repair shop!

Emma, I really cant add much more than the other ladies have posted - but again do absolutley understand your fears. I do hope today offer you the positivity you need to hear.

Someone once told me that in most cases the anticipation of an event is often more powerful than the event itself. I agree with this in most part - the waiting can be simply awful.

But - looking at the positives, if the worst news were to be that PE was likely again, look how well informaed you are now. How different is this from before? And with the knowledge that PE might be likely, strategies can be put in place before things get to crisis point and therefore the outcome more positive.

I am as always, so pleased that all the ladies on this site so supportive of each other. Thank you ladies.

Warm wishes to you all.

Liz

Thankyou all so much for your kind words and support, I really, really appreciate it.

I have just been struggling so much, but at last (fingers crossed!) things seem to be looking up. The dopplers showed totally normal blood flow in both arteries and in the umbilical cord. I asked the Consultant where this puts my risk now and she said she can't say I won't get HELLP or BP problems again but she is confident it won't be early on set or as severe. Very Happy

We are both absolutely over the moon, and know we're not out of the woods yet but the relief is brilliant.

Thankyou all so much again and hope you too got good news Jools.

Love to you all
Emma xx

Hi Penny,

I got my Doppler done at Sunderland Royal. Not entirely sure why because I know they can do them at my hospital (and James Cook which is nearer), but something about them being specialists? Like I said, not too sure. Hope the care you get this time is better.
